About the materials we work with
Peter Simons Design work with a variety of traditional, current and innovative materials. Brief details and the benefits of each follow |
|
Fibrous Plaster | |
Fibrous Plaster is a traditional material for hand made decorative plaster products.
It is light, flexible and suitable for all types of decorative plasterwork. |
|
GRG - Glass Reinforced Gypsum
GRG is a light versatile material involving casting plaster reinforced with glass fibre matt. Glass-reinforced gypsum technology produces thin, lightweight, high-strength pieces. |
|
GRC - Glass Reinforced Concrete
GRC is a thin section concrete that uses Alkali Resistant glass fibres for reinforcement as opposed to traditional steel. The fact that the fibres will not rust like steel means that there is no real requirement for “cover” and no problems associated with the lack of it. As such it is possible to make lightweight elements that have impressive structural qualities yet save up around 65-75% of the weight of a solid unit. |
|
Jesmonite | |
Jesmonite gives options for interior and exterior use. It is available in numerous finishes - for example Plain, Sandstone, Limestone, Portland Stone, Stainless Steel, Wood or Oxidised Bronze.
Jesmonite is lightweight compared to alternative materials and is impact resistant |
|
GRP - Glass Reinforced Polyester
GRP is a light, strong and durable material compounded from a mixture or resin, gelcoat and glassfibre matt suitable for exterior use. It can be pigmented to match any British Standard or RAL colour. The finish can be matt or gloss and the finish face can be plain or textured. Being much lighter than stone, concrete and many traditional building materials, GRP offers a cost effective alternative. F16 Fastcast - Plastic Polymer
Very quick setting, producing castings which are highly detailed and less brittle than those made of polyester resin. |
